Welcome to the RPS International members web area

The Royal Photographic Society is a UK based photographic educational charity with International members.  This page tells you a little more about the International web site and what we aim to deliver to members via these web pages.

In many countries the RPS has Chapters (localised groups) who organise meetings, send out newsletters and generally engage with their country wide members.  However many International members either do not live close enough to take advantage of the Chapter activities or live in countries where one does not exist.  This web area is for the use of any RPS International member, whether you are a Chapter member or not.  Together International members now have a community with which they can engage and participate through this RPS web space.

We aim to do as much as we possibly can to provide activities and online facilities. So as long as you have access to the internet you will be able to participate. You no longer need to feel isolated and alone – this new international community of RPS members welcomes you.

To mark the launch of this new web space we are inviting all International members to submit one image to our 2019 Overseas Members’ Online Exhibition.  Click on the words in blue to go to the page for more information or navigate down the list on the right hand side of this page.

This exhibition is not competitive and there are no prizes; it is purely an opportunity to show images being produced by RPS members overseas.

The exhibition is just the start of more to come, but we need to build and develop the site slowly.  Ultimately we would hope to have online meetings and recordings, tutorials, support for LRPS Distinctions, and likely other things we have yet to think of.  If you have ideas or would like to help by joining the organisational team then do email international@rps.org

Awards

The Society’s awards are offered annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to the art and science of photography. Members are invited to nominate in the autumn, through the Society’s website. A history of our awards and recent recipients can be found here.

Our recipients are often happy to take part in lectures or workshops organised by our members. Please approach them through Jo Macdonald, Awards Manager, jo@rps.org.

International Photography Exhibition

The International Photography Exhibition (IPE) celebrates the best in photography from around the world and selected work from the open-call annually tours the UK and Ireland.

Supported by a UK professional print lab overseas entrants, if selected, have the benefit of free printing plus guaranteed delivery in time for the selection. RPS members also receive a discount of 20% on the entry fee.

Science Photographer of the Year

RPS members get discounted entry rates to the Science Photographer of the Year competition. We ask for the best images of science, whether this means experiments, people doing science or how science impacts on our daily lives. The shortlisted images are shown at London’s iconic Science Museum and other major venues.

Digital Imaging Group Online

The Digital Imaging Group (DIG) embraces all genre and styles of work and are a highly active group.   They offer an online membership option which is ideally suited to RPS overseas members.  An online member can engage fully with DIG by reading the various publications using page turning software; increasingly we are using video conferencing to facilitate our overseas members joining key meetings. Distance is irrelevant to the online member.
